2nd Year Students:
Welcome back to History of Magic! I am thrilled that you have decided to continue your studies in this subject.

This year is intended to teach you about important locations across the Wizarding World and their significance over time. We will also aim to distinguish fact from fairytale by learning from similarities in muggle history. All of the individual lessons can be found by hovering on the "2nd Year" button. In order to pass the year, you must complete at least one lesson. The assignment expectations can be found further down on this page.
Assignment Options:
You may choose from the following four options for your assignment. As a reminder, although only one assignment is required to pass the year, you may complete as many as you wish in order to earn houseopints.

-
Option One: The Fountain of Fair Fortune
-
Across time, in both the magic and muggle worlds, people have searched for a cure to aging and death.
-

-
Option Two: The Chamber of Secrets
-
It is a commonly known fact that wizards have a complicated relationship with muggles; however, complicated relationships with wizardkind extend to numerous magical species as well. This lesson will explain the nuances of these different relationships.
-

-
Option Three: Magical Fortresses - practical option available!
-
Aside from Hogwarts, what other important magical buildings exist in the Wizarding World? This lesson will explore the historical significance of Nurmengard Castle. More fortresses are covered in the practical!
-

-
Option Four: Gringotts Wizarding Bank
-
Harry Potter: The Boy Who Lived. We all know his name, but do we really know his life? This lesson will highlight the most important events in Potter's life as it relates to magical history.
-

-
Option Five: All-Wizard Communities
-
Some Hogwarts students come from muggle communities, and others come from communities that are a mix of muggles and wizardkind. The rarest type of community in the Wizarding World is the All-Wizard Community. This lesson will describe some examples, including one right outside of Hogwarts!

Assignment Expectations:
The expectations for 1st-4th Year assignments in every class consist of the following:
-
The minimum word count is 200-300 words. You may exceed this number, but assignments that do nt reach the word count will not earn full marks.
-
Your words should be your own; plagiarism is not tolerated. Some assignments may require you to do research of your own; you are encouraged to include links to the sources you referenced.
-
Be sure to review your assignments for proper spelling and grammar. Mistakes will result in points taken off, unless a spell-check quill is used.

History of Magic is a unique subject in that our studies will mostly be research-based, rather than classes that have you practicing magic. As such, you should expect to practice skills including research, analysis, and reflection.
