ALL-WIZARD COMMUNITIES

2nd Year - Option Five

I'm sure you are all familiar with the topic of all-wizard communities, even though there is only one left. With the signature of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, wizards had to conceal any trace of the Wizarding World from muggles. It seemed to be an obvious step to create communities without muggles. In them, we, the magical folk, could live in peace and perform our magic openly without fearing muggles seeing our actions.

Today, only one all-wizard community is left in Britain – right before the castle's front door. Hogsmeade was founded by Hengist of Woodcroft and is said to be as old as Hogwarts Castle. The High Street of Hogsmeade features famous shops and restaurants including The Three Broomsticks, Madame Puddifoot's, Zonko's Joke Shop, and Honeydukes. Hogsmeade is also the location of the Shrieking Shack, which has acted as a safe location for full-moon transformations for Hogwarts students inflicted with lycanthropy.

But aside from that, we sometimes also secretly settled close to or right within muggle towns, creating concealed wizarding communities within muggle communities. The muggles around were often either very tolerant of magic or have been confunded. Famous examples are Godric's Hollow or Ottery St Catchpole.
